tweet cube - micro-blogging twitter tools

From an internet marketing perspective, this can be a very useful tool if you are using Twitter to communicate with your list and/or offering a private member Twitter feed for customers. Using a micro-blogging file sharing tool such as tweet cube, will allow you to share free PDF reports, conf call notes, and other “exclusive” items that are only available to your list.

Is Ed Dale More Popular Than Paris Hilton

YES! In the micro-blogging world of Twitter, Ed Dale is indeed more popular than Paris Hilton.

Am I crazy? How did I come up with this information? The answer is Twist.

This cool site enables you to monitor trends in Twitter. Think of Google Trends, but focused only within the micro-blogging community of Twitter. Check out the screenshot below. The red graph represents the number of times “Ed Dale” is posted by someone in Twitter over the past week. The orange is the amount of times “Paris Hilton” is discussed.

Microblogging - Spot Trends In Twitter

As you can see, Ed Dale is definitely more popular than Paris Hilton. Perhaps next week Paris will have a wardrobe malfunction and then be the talk of Twitter, but for now Ed Dale has her beat.

In the affiliate marketing world, one of the techniques some of us use is to check out Google Trends to see if the particular niche we are going to target has an adequate amount of search traffic. However, since Google Trends is not real time, if we only focus on Google Trends, we might miss out on a chance to catch a spike in search traffic, which means a lost opportunity.

For example, imagine if you were thinking of setting up a CPA campaign for Microsoft Zune, and you check Google Trends to see the search volume for the past 30 days compared to an Ipod. Here is what you will see.

Zune Versus Ipod Using Google Trends

As you can see, according to Google Trends, Microsoft’s Zune doesnt even have a pulse, just a complete “flat line” over the past 30 days. However, if you run this same search using Twist, you see a completely different picture.

Zune micro-blogging popularity in Twitter

There was a HUGE spike today in traffic. Why? A quick search over at Google News reveals that GameStop plans to stop selling the Zune player. With roughly 4,500 outlets, this is a blow for the Zune player, but it could be an opportunity for an internet marketer. Think about it, here a coulple possible ideas:

1) You can create a CPA campaign using a poll asking users what they think of the Zune player and if Microsoft should “throw in the towel” and admit iPod the winner. Once they select their choice, you can then ask them for their zip code to enter a drawing for a free iPod or something similar. Some of these pay as much as .50 cents per zip code and/or email submit.

2) You can create an Adwords campaign promoting iPods and iPod related products that highlights this news for people doing searches for “buy zune” or anything related to the Zune player and your product. If I’m doing a search for Zune, and I came across an ad that said, “GameStop has given up on Zune, Why should you as well?” I’ll definitely click on the ad.

As you can see, if I would have only used Google Trends, I would have missed this opportunity. By tapping into the micro-blogging community and searching for what people are talking about RIGHT NOW, I can quickly spot trends (and profit from them) before they hit the mainstream press.

Fun Twitter Site Of The Day - TwitterVision

Ever wanted to know where in the world people are using Twitter? If you have a few minutes (or hours once you start using this) to kill, then you need to check out TwitterVision.

This cool micro-blogging service for Twitter, shows real-time messages (tweets) people are posting on Twitter all around the world. The fun thing about this is that Bubbles pop up every few seconds pinpointing the person’s location on a global map along with their icon/pic & message. Just go to the site, sit back and watch “tweets” start to pop up all over a global map. You are going to be amazed just how global Twitter has become.

** Warning: Use of this application can become addictive. Use it at your own risk. :)

Is Google Reader The New Twitter?

“All warfare is based on deception. There is no place where espionage is not used. Offer the enemy bait to lure him.” — Sun Tzu

Seems like the folks over at Twitter have not read the ‘Art of War’ by Sun Tzu because it seems that Google has quietly been putting things in place to take on Twitter. Have you heard of Google Reader? Probably not. It’s not getting much press, but if you look closer, you will see they added a “Notes” feature which feels a lot micro-blogging (Twitter).

When you type in a note, your message is shared with all your Google Talk friends. This reminds me a lot like micro-blogging. :) The interesting thing is that Google has done two things. 1) Purchased Jaiku. This has made everyone focus on Jaiku as being the “Twitter Killer” considering the 800 pound gorilla Jaiku has behind them and 2) Google Talk is integrated with Twitter so you can send out your “tweets” to everyone on your contact list. Could this friendly alliance actually be something else? Is Google actually trying to get as much user and traffic data from Twitter to improve their own service? (Google Reader). You be the judge, but I find it odd that there has been almost zero news and/or buzz about Google Reader. I guess only time will tell what Google’s true intentions are, but if I was Twitter, I would be very careful and would definitely pick up a copy of ‘Art of War’ and read every page.

Where Is The Buzz? - TwitterBuzz

Wondering where all the “buzz” is on Twitter? Which sites people are talking about in the micro-blogging universe? There is a cool site called TwitterBuzz that shows the top sites all the micro-bloggers are linking to in the past 24 hours. This can be a great little resource to find sites/topics before they go viral and hit traditional media. Enjoy.
